A BOLTON seminar on charity law will be a money-raiser as well.
Local solicitors Fieldings Porter are holding the event at the Bolton Moat house on Thursday, July 17.
It will be chaired by Lord Taylor of Blackburn, who is deputy speaker of the House of Lords.
The seminar speakers will be Mr David S. Porter and Mr Arthur Blackburn, a Director of VAT who joined accountants Clark Whitehill seven years ago after eight years with Customs and Excise, specialising in local office investigation.
Mr Porter, who is Senior Partner at Fieldings Porter, arranged a similar event three years ago which raised £500 for the MacMillan Nurses Cancer Fund.
This time he hopes to present £1,000 to the Bolton Lads' & Girls' Club new clubhouse appeal after administrative costs have been covered.
"I wrote to the 85 people who attended my last lecture asking what sort of topics they would like to be discussed and the liabilities of trustees and directors was top of the list," Mr Porter said today.
"I also think charities have considerable trouble with VAT as they seem to think it does not apply to them."
Mr Porter has been involved with the Lads' club since he taught woodwork there at the age of 18.
A former secretary and chairman, he is currently the honorary solicitor and director of the new company which runs the popular Bark Street organisation.
Anybody interested in the seminar is asked to contact Jayne Hilton at Fieldings Porter. Tel: 01204 387742.
The seminar starts at 4.15pm and costs £20.
