ANYONE looking out of the windo would have assumed, not unnaturally, that there was no possibility of the senior inter league match being played at Darcy Lever.
The rain was torrential but fortunately it stopped and on inspection the pitch was perfectly playable.
Bolton batted first and lost five players in the first round. Four were out at first base due to accurate bowling and sharp fielding by Bury. Only V Hill managed to reach double figures scoring 12, including a rounder, other players who added to the score were L Sutcliffe and C Fairclough each scoring seven and J Bluer with five. Bolton were all out for 44.
When Bury went in to bat the Bolton players knew they had a battle on their hands. They rose to the challenge but J Neville thwarted their efforts by scoring an impressive 17 runs while L Unsworth scored nine. Bolton's fielding was good but at half time the score was Bolton 44 Bury 65. A deficit of 21.
Bolton's second innings started badly losing two batters in the first round and again only one player reached double figures. L Hague scored 10 but M Gregory came close with nine. Everyone else contributed to the second innings scores of 42 making a match total of 86.
Bury needed only 22 to win the well contested match and although Bolton fought hard and no Bury player reached double figures the first innings deficit proved too much, Bury taking the match 103-86. S Taylor was voted Bolton's Players' Player.
