SIR: I refer to the article and letter about the boy banned from exam over his haircut". I fully agree with the statement "Teenagers have enough problems this time of year", but these problems will not stop in the teenage years if these young people are not taught standards and discipline through-out these vulnerable years.
Education, as stated by official educational bodies, is ultimately concerned with preparation for adult life. Surely instilling a respect for rules and ensuring adherence to regulations serves to set standards. I suggest a fine school such as Thornleigh College should be applauded for making such a concerted effort in providing education not only in English and Maths etc; but also in life.
