A SHARPLES primary school has been given a good report by Government inspectors.

A team from OFSTED-the Office For Standards in Education-found High Lawn County Primary School to be "a good school with many strengths".

Recent national tests show that at ages seven and 11 pupils attainment levels exceeded the average for their age in English, mathematics and science. In other subjects too pupils attainments are at least as good and often better than those recorded nationally.

The quality of teaching was judged satisfactory or better in 97 per cent of lessons with teachers demonstrating secure subject knowledge and good planning.

The overall school curriculum is said to be broad and balanced and has well developed links between different subjects.

The school is well managed and led, with the governing body and headteacher, Mrs Rosemary Rushton, providing clear educational direction.

To extend the school's current achievement it is advised to review its systems for assessment in some subject areas and apply design technology skills more regularly for older pupils.

Mr David Kay, chairman of the governing body, said: "The report reflects the commitment to the school shown by staff, parents, governors and pupils."
