BURY chairman Terry Robinson today responded to increasing speculation linking Stan Ternent with the vacant manager's job at Burnley.

Gigg Lane boss Ternent is 4-1 third favourite with the bookies to take over the Turf Moor club which is round the corner from his home and where he once played.

While he is not under contract, Ternent has just struck an improved pay deal with Bury who he has guided to two successive promotions.

Robinson said today: "Someone who lives 600 yards from the ground and who used to work there is an obvious name to be linked with that job.

"People are speculating but there has been nobody from any club or from any paper apart from the BEN who has asked me about it and the answer is that as far as we are concerned the manager has never intimated that he is interested in leaving.

"We have an ongoing agreement which he is satisfied with although you can't stop the speculation."
