SIR: I refer to the article 'Boy banned from school over haircut' (BEN June 20)
In the first place, Steven and his mother knew the school rules regarding haircuts etc. As Father Williams explained, before Year 11 pupils were due to take the exams, they were asked to maintain the same school standards throughout. Steven didn't do anything about the haircut over the weekend and it was silly not to do as he was asked.
Father Williams did say: "As soon as he does, he is welcome back."
As far as the standards of students' work is concerned, all staff at Thornleigh do their very best for all pupils, sometimes in very trying situations.
Teaching is a hard enough job without having this kind of thing to contend with. Perhaps, if some parents gave the school the support it deserves, these situations might not occur.
Grateful parent of ex-pupil.
