Horwich Cycling Club's Vets competed in the Leeds Premier Road Races at Wetherby.
in the 58-mile event for 40-49 year old, Vinny Smith finished third behind winner Gary Hill, Dinnington RC. Other placings were Roy Francis 9th, Allan Swimby 11th, Dave Leyland 13th.
In the Over 50s race, Pete Halliwell scored his second victory in as many weeks after being away in the lead with Dave Watson, Oldham for 43 miles.
The day of racing ended on a sad note when ex-International rider, Ken Hill, Liverpool Mercury, collapsed and died in his race. Ken was a great character of the sport and may be remembered for winning the special sprint prize put up by Horwich Council when the Milk Race passed through Rivington in the late 1960s.
