SIR: On Saturday, June 28, the Bolton Mountain Rescue team held its second annual fund-raising appeal and display in Bolton town centre.
The magnificent sum of £802.74 was raised, and the whole team expresses its immense gratitude for the support of the public who so generously gave to our appeal on the day, and also for their genuine interest expressed in the work of the team.
We would also like to thank Bolton MBC for again granting us permission to hold the collection.
In 1996, we dealt with 40 incidents, with 17 to date this year and, with annual running costs nearing £12,000, the support of the public enables us to continue providing a voluntary search and rescue service to the local community that is second to none.

Bolton MRT Team leader
