WORSLEY MP Terry Lewis has called for action to boost the number of people with occupational pension schemes.
He said that in recent years there had been a sad decline in this form of provision for retirement.
Social Services Minister John Denham said that one reason for this had been the mis-selling of personal pensions to people with perfectly-adequate occupational schemes - which the Treasury team was now trying to sort out.
He said the Government was attempting to develop a new form of flexible stakeholder pension schemes without high fees and charges so people who moved from job to job could still have proper provision for retirement.
