A SCHOOLBOY has died after being found hanging in his bedroom after a family row.

Ashley Moran, aged 12, died in Salford's Hope Hospital after a life support machine, which had been keeping him alive, was switched off.

Police have described the incident as a "terrible tragedy."

Ashley, of Trippier Road, Eccles, is believed to have been found hanging by his parents on Monday night hours after being sent to bed with his brothers following a family disagreement.

He was discovered by his father who attempted to revive him on the bedroom floor before police and ambulance paramedics arrived at the house.

A police officer took over the efforts to save the boy's life. He attempted mouth-to-mouth resuscitation before the fight to save his life was continued in the ambulance.

Ashley was put on a life support machine in the intensive care unit at Hope Hospital. But he did not regain consciousness and his parents agreed with the decision to switch off the machine yesterday lunchtime.

A police file on the case will now be forwarded to the Coroner.

Supt Peter Morris, head of Swinton CID, said: "Ashley's death is a terrible tragedy. I would like to express our condolences to his parents."
