TWO plucky Chorley patients will prove that a transplant truly does provide a gift for life when they battle against the odds at a special athletics event later this month.
Peter Proctor, 43, and Paul Marriott, 47, are preparing to compete in the Guardian Health British Transplant Games which begin at Wirral on July 10.
The games follow National Transplant week this week and aim to increase the importance of carrying a donor card.
Paul, of Canal Walk, Chorley, underwent a heart and lung transplant six years ago at Papworth Hospital, Cambridge.
This will be his sixth transplant games as he again strives for success amidst the great sporting atmosphere of the popular event.
He said: "Winning is a bonus at the games, but it is guaranteed that the person who comes home last will receive the biggest cheer."
Paul will be taking part in the crown green bowls - a new-found hobby of his - and also the shot and cricket ball throwing events.
He says he has been amazed by the new lease of life he has received following the transplant and is delighted that he has made many new friends of all ages through the games.
Peter, of Charnock Richard, underwent a kidney transplant. He will be taking part in the bowls and walk events.
