A DARE-DEVIL weekend for the disabled is about to swing into action on the outskirts of Chorley.

The annual Rivington Experience on Saturday and Sunday July 5 and 6 gives people with disabilities and their families and friends a fabulous opportunity to try out sports they might never dream of taking part in.

Attractions at the North West Water-sponsored event at the Rivington treatment works, Horwich, include abseiling, rock climbing, canoeing and water ski-ing.

There will also be rides on the Argocat all-terrain vehicle. And for the less energetic, more tranquil activities such as face painting, tours of the plant, viewing exhibitions and badge making have been organised.

In addition, there will be refreshments, a children's play area, entertainment with everything from a steel band to Hall Orchestra workshops and plenty of volunteers to lend a helping hand.

The free weekend was a huge success last year, attracting thousands of visitors.

Mike Crabtree, NWW's head of conservation, said: "We are expecting this summer's event to be bigger and better than ever.

"A lot of hard work is going into making the Rivington Experience this year an experience for many to remember."

Parking for orange badge holders will be provided on site. Adequate parking space off site is available with transport to and from the main site, and to all other activity areas provided.
