SIR: At one time we were constantly told by governments of all political colours, that inflation was caused by too much money chasing too few goods, so taxation had to be increased to stem the money flow of consumers.
Now we're told, with shops heaving with consumer goods, all manufactured to create jobs and also made to sell, that people buying them are overheating the economy and taxation must be increased to curb the spending.
I'm sure our knowledgeable MPs will rush into print to give us the truth, but no reference to the building societies payouts please. Not all payouts have been released, nor is everyone spending if they have received them, and if spending is curtailed, who will fill the 3,000 seater cinemas?
Better to stop developments than have empty buildings?
