SIR: I refer to Lever Park/Rivington/Blue Planet.
In your article on Lever Park/Rivington you quoted a term often used by North West Water, namely 'regeneration'. The word is highly emotive, in that it conjures up a totally false impression of the area. One could almost imagine a barren wasteland crying out for assistance from those benevolent folks at United Utilities.
To regenerate means to recreate, but surely this is not what the majority of the park's users want. Thousands enjoy the park because of its natural simplicity, a rare jewel in these days of theme park mentality. Yes, let's maintain pathways, repair when necessary, otherwise, allow nature to lead the way.
Nearly 200 years ago, Wordsworth wrote: 'Sweet is the Lore which Nature brings; Our meddling intellect mis-shapes the beauteous form of things'. Take note, North West Water and start to see what nature and the people really desire.
