THE Times and Telegraph publish a summary of despatches received from Mr Stanley, who was sent out by the New York Herald on a search expedition for Dr. Livingstone. It appears that the renowned English traveller is alive and well, and that, after many years of arduous toil in the centre of Africa, he has discovered that the River Zambesi is the source of the Nile, and that great river is 2,600 miles long. Mr Stanley met Dr Livingstone last November at Ujiji, where he had been obliged to retire, weary and destitute, through his men having mutinied and deserted him. They stayed together until March 14, when Mr Stanley, with letters from Dr Livingstone, started for the coast, leaving the explorer to continue his researches. Dr Livingstone estimates that he will require 16 or 18 months to complete his work.
