RUSSIAN pupils have been swapping culture with their Bolton counterparts in an exchange visit with a difference.
Nearly 20 students from Russia have been enjoying a six week visit to the town, staying with a host of families for a fly-on-the-wall look at British life.
The scheme has involved schools across the borough who have been teaching the Russian youngsters alongside regular pupils.
Turton High School deputy headteacher Michael Dent said: "The scheme has been running very smoothly and has been a marvellous experience for both the school and the pupils.
"The children speak excellent English and have surprised us with their knowledge of various subjects, especially maths."
Headteacher at Rivington and Blackrod High School, Mr Jeff Mills, also praised the Russian students, describing the visit as "very successful."
Mr Mills said that the visit also involved different organisations giving the Russians a glimpse of local life outside of the classroom.
Liaison officer for the project, Mr David Jones, explained: "I cannot believe how accommodating Bolton families have been.
"They have welcomed the young people into their homes and I would like to thank them for making the visit so successful."
Just eight pupils remain in the town after the rest of the party returned home last week.
These youngsters are expected to fly back to Russia next week.
