SIR: Recently I was in the car on Newbrook Road about to turn right into the drive of our house. Whilst waiting for the oncoming traffic I saw someone throw what turned out to be the remnants of a chocolate bar wrapping over the front wall between the conifers of our neighbour's house. Very annoyed, I shouted: "Do you always dump your rubbish there?" No reply, "I live there!" Still no reply. He just continued walking up the road and was out of sight by the time I'd parked the car.

I must admit I have a "thing" about "litter bugs". The streets of our towns are a disgrace because of them. What I found disturbing was this particular one looked quite respectable, the type I would expect to teach his children not to throw litter, but was guilty of the very act, no matter how much he tried to conceal his actions by throwing the litter behind the wall rather than just on the footpath, Perhaps he thought he was being considerate.

I probably sound 'holier than thou', but I feel very passionately about the litter problem and unless something radical can be found to solve it, we have no chance with serious crime.
