'WE could fill every bed tomorrow if we had the staff', Miss C.M. Thompson, matron of the Wilkinson Sanatorium, told an Evening News' reporter. At present, only 25 of the 50 beds are occupied, and because she is the only trained member of the staff, Miss Thompson has to do all the nursing herself. She is helped by a domestic staff of 10, two of whom perform general nursing duties under her supervision. Before the war the sanatorium was staffed by the matron, sister, and six fully trained nurses, and all the beds were occupied. Unless more staff can be found, says Miss Thompson, the sanatorium will undoubtedly have to close down.

THIS morning, the 58th annual meeting of the subscribers of the Bolton Infirmary and Dispensary was held, under the presidency of the Rev. Canon Powell, vicar of Bolton and Rural Dean. Mr Peter Kevan, the hon. secretary, read the report for the past year, and Mr Naylor, clerk to Mr Alderman Wolfenden (one of the treasurers) read the financial statement, both of which were of a satisfactory character. After the usual vote of thanks, the following resolution was moved by Mr T. Moscrop, seconded by Mr T. Cooper, and carried unanimously:-
'That this meeting requests the committee to hold a special meeting at an early date to make arrangements for a public meeting, to be convened by the Mayor, for the purpose of taking into consideration the necessity of a new Infirmary and Dispensary to meet the increasing wants of the borough and neighbourhood.'
