If I could be born again, from me you'd hear this fervent plea,
Don't make me reside in Westhoughton, make it Atherton or Leigh.
Now if you'd like to know why I'm making all this fuss,
It's because those residents are fortunate when they need a bus.
Our service (559) is quite reasonable, unless one gets taken off
Then the queue waiting for the 582 can really, really scoff.
You see, their buses are so frequent, barely a space between,
And now I'll disclose, witnessed what the other day was seen.
Five 582s were all waiting, all together in one smart line
Two double-deckers and three single, there so smug and fine.
The first of these double-deckers had absorbed the entire queue
The other four looked so dismayed, nowt for them to do!
We cold 559 passengers, for an inspector searched in vain
But naturally he had gone to hide and keep out of the rain.
Now all you transport-planners at your next meeting oh do
increase the 559 frequiences to match the 582. By Patricia Knowles
