GPT of Carr Lane in Chorley has won an order worth £1.4 million to supply New World Payphones with its Emerald intelligent and multi-pay range of payphones. Also, a supply contract is being developed which is hoped will lead to a significant commitment to GPT for several thousand payphones. The Emerald system handles all payment methods from coin operation to credit and telephone cards.
GPT, which currently exports payphones to more than 100 countries worldwide, says a revolutionary dual-carousel coin handling device ensures continuous trouble-free operation.
New World Payphones, a British company established in 1990, has so far installed about 6,700 payphones on public streets and in privately-owned sites such as airports, hospitals, shopping centres and motorway service areas.
