A CONFERENCE later this month will give advice to bosses who have workers suffering from diabetes. Bolton and Bury Chamber of Commerce is involved in a seminar taking place between 3.30pm and 5.30pm on Thursday, March 26. The free seminar at the Bolton Diabetes Centre in Chorley Street, Bolton, is being led by Dr John Dean, consultant diabetes specialist.
Organisers say that around 6,000 people in Bolton are known to have diabetes and another 3,000 may have it and not be aware of the fact.
There is a strong chance that any business employing more than 50 people will have at least one person with diabetes.
The seminar will stress that there are many areas in which an employer can help these workers to remain healthy and productive.
Anybody interested can ring the Bolton Diabetes Centre on 01204 522814 or the chamber on 01204 526526. THE Mayor of Bolton, Cllr Peter Birch, developed diabetes at the age of 15 while working in a local factory.
He has designated his year of office as Diabetes Awareness Year.
