JOHN Monks, General Secretary of the TUC, visited the Royal Bolton Hospital at the invitation of the Chairman of Bolton Hospitals NHS Trust, Mrs Barbara Peacock.
Mr Monks met a number of staff and formally opened the new trade union offices provided by the hospital and also the newly refurbished staff residences, Musgrave House.
Mrs Peacock said the Trust was delighted to welcome Mr Monks to the hospital.
She said: "Mr Monks' visit has been warmly appreciated by staff and we will remember today as a special event within the life of the hospital."
Mr Monks has been TUC General Secretary since 1993. He was born in Manchester and has maintained strong links with the North-west including receiving an honorary degree from the University of Salford and being appointed recently as a Visiting Professor to the School of Management at UMIST.
Mr Monks said: "Bolton Hospitals NHS Trust and its unions are acting in a spirit of partnership which we would like to see replicated in many other parts of industry."?
