JAMIE Pollock could pave the way for Wanderers to finally make their long-awaited transfer splash.
Bolton fans have been frustrated at the club's failure to make any significant move in the market since Dean Holdsworth's arrival at the start of October and many believe it is too late now to make any impact on their Premiership fortunes.
But Pollock, transfer-listed in acrimonious circumstances, is a bargaining chip that could give Colin Todd scope to make one last push before the transfer deadline a week on Thursday.
He has already been linked with a swap deal for Wolves' striker Don Goodman. But both Todd and Molineux manager Mark McGhee dismissed the speculation out of hand. Wolves have, in fact, had an interest in Pollock this season. They saw him in action at West Ham on October 18 but McGhee, who wants a hard-tackling midfield player, says the former Boro boy is not the man for him.
Ray Harford, who wanted to take Pollock to West Brom when he first went on the list in the autumn, has other priorities since quitting The Hawthorns for QPR and isn't expected to make a renewed bid.
Todd had hoped to have at least one, possibly two, new players in place this weekend but again his efforts again came to nothing.
He was reported to have signed Juan Jose Borrelli on an extended loan deal from River Plate but his interest in the once-capped Argentina international stretched no further than seeing a video clip, which clearly showed the player was not a right-side midfielder thus ruling out a bid.
Portuguese trialists Jose Moreira and Rodrigo De Moura, brought over 'on spec' by an agent, and Frenchman Pascal Camadini, who is with Swiss club Sion, impressed at reserve team level in midweek but were not impressive enough to warrant further trials.
Per Frandsen is expected to be named in the Denmark squad this weekend for the friendly against Scotland at Ibrox on March 25.
BBC GMR will dedicate a phone-in programme on Tuesday to the fortunes of Bolton Wanderers.
