SIR: The person who wrote to the 'Destitute Animals Shelter' condemning the sterilizing of the animals before homing them must be not quite 'twelve pence in the shilling', as well as being a coward not having the courage to give their name.
I was on the DAS Committee for 40 years and was constantly stressing the value of sterilization and when a former committee member left a generous legacy to get the scheme started, I was delighted and hope it will never lack the funds to continue. Incidentally the RSPCA, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Cat's Protection, 'Pets in Need', 'Feline Rescue' and other organisations all over the country use this scheme to try and cut down the numbers of unwanted animals.
Unfortunately we still have some stupid people who let their pets have litters and then want someone else to help them out.
