SIR: The threat of another Fire Service strike brings the suggestion that the Forces will take over the role of providing cover and, again, put the "Green Goddess" fire engines to use.
Why should the service personnel have to use the Forces fire equipment, when the Fire Service equipment, held by the Local Authority, is supplied through the taxes of the general public, for the protection of all? This equipment is NOT the properly of the fire-fighters or their unions!
The Forces personnel will be doing firefighting under enough difficulty and should be given the best equipment, the Fire Service engines.
Of course they will not have all the skills to use the equipment to its full potential but should not be hamstrung by outdated equipment
The safety of the public will be enhanced by this measure, with the blue lights and sirens in use.
