UK housebuilder Persimmon plc - parent company of Leigh-based Persimmon homes (North West) Ltd - has announced record profits for the year to December 31.
Net pre-tax profit has increased by 53 per cent from £33.1 million in 1966 to a new record of £50.5 million in 1997.
Earnings per share grew by 40pc to 21.3 pence.
Persimmon sold 6,521 homes in 1997 compared with 6,008 in 1996.
