TRANSPORT planning and engineering specialist John Parkin has been appointed Subject Group Leader of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Bolton Institute Faculty of Technology.
Mr Parkin, aged 34, who lives in Bolton, was previously with the international engineering consultancy W.S. Atkins. He led the research team monitoring the impacts of Supertram in South Yorkshire and he has been involved with many local authorities across the north advising on transport policy planning.
Mr Parkin, who was born in Edenfield and brought up in Leicester, has also been involved with the Dublin Transport Initiative - a scheme to provide 26 kilometres of bus priority and cycle schemes along radial routes into the city.
He obtained his BSc (Eng) from Imperial College, London, and his MSc from the University of Salford.
His working life has taken him overseas to the Caribbean, Turkey and the Middle East.
Married with two children, he is Chairman of the Environment Forum Transport Subject Group of the Bolton Agenda 21 Initiative.
