THE way up Winter Hill will be less of a trek for walkers in future thanks to the efforts of the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers and North West Water.
Volunteers are spending this week stone-cobbling the path up the hill used by hundreds of walkers and visitors to Rivington.
Over the years, the number of visitors to the hill has meant that the way up has become over worn.
North West Water project officer Debbie Johnson said: "This is a very popular spot for walkers which, of course, means the path does suffer erosion.
"With North West Water's funding and with the help of the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers, we will be able to ensure that we will all be able to continue enjoying this lovely walk."
