ANY extra cash which can be ploughed into the education system is more than welcome.
So we join in the general rejoicing that the Government has handed £100,000 to Bolton Council for a study support centre for slow learners at the Reebok stadium.
The handout is part of a £2.2 million cash allocation to Bolton education bosses which is aimed at raising standards across the board.
When the idea was first mooted we warned that the danger in this exciting new centre is, of course, that soccer-made pupils might be tempted to under-achieve just to attend it and that it would seem like "rewarding" failure.
We repeat that warning while welcoming the concept of raising standards in literacy and numeracy.
