SIR: Despite the orchestrated letters campaign (BEN, March 9) from Labour Party supporters and the one-sided debate, Ruth Kelly MP for Bolton West failed to answer my pertinent question: which has priority the welfare of her baby and the one she is expecting or the welfare of her constituents? As even if you have a supportive family, I remain to be convinced that you can combine being an MP and a mother to young children as both are 24-hour a day jobs. And also has no one considered Ms Kelly's health while she is pregnant, as I have, despite being painted a misogynist by the Labour Party PC brigade. The stress could seriously jeopardise her's and the unborn child's health.

Also, another pertinent question for Ruth Kelly is: when she gives birth later in the year, will she be taking maternity leave? And if so, what will happen to the people of Bolton West's political representation?

So, once again, I call on Ruth Kelly to consider her position as an MP despite all the modern PC waffle, you cannot have your cake and ha'penny.
