Smithills School's Senior Brass Band faces a weekend under the spotlight both on stage and in front of the camera.
First, tomorrow, at 7.30pm, the band performs at the Victoria Hall in a charity gala concert. On Sunday, members feature in a BBC 2 documentary, 'Young Musicians '98 - The Envy of the World'.
The programme, from 5pm to 5.50pm, focuses on the outcry surrounding the recent announcement by the Government that music as a subject may no longer be taught in primary schools. An interview with composer Sir Maxwell Davies is included, along with short clips from three contrasting primary schools in the UK. This will then be followed by an extended feature on Smithills in the last half of the programme.
In addition, BBC's North West Tonight will be filming the Senior Brass Band, sponsored by Fort James UK Ltd and Keogh Ritson Solicitors, for a slot featuring their success due to be shown next week.
