Mum, have you seen my navy gym skirt?
And, by the way, I need a new shirt.
What is for breakfast, mum, because I am hungry?
School trip money today, mum, it's to be in for Monday.
Look in my purse. But, mum, you've no change.
There goes the phone, that's nothing strange.
Come on now, children, I'm in a hurry.
I've got to meet grandma at nine in Bury.
Today is a day not to forget,
Come on, children, you're not ready yet.
It's time to set off, you'll miss your school bus.
Why is it every morning we're in such a rush?
Tomorrow I'll be more organised I say,
But it's the same week after week, day after day.
Please, mum, can Jenny come tonight for her tea?
Hayley, don't you think I've enough with my three?
Oh, mum, you will like her, she's only a small eater.
Please, please! I would love you to meet her.
Okay, but don't make it a regular thing.
And if you're going to be late, give me a ring.
Wayne, get your coat on, you are going to be late,
Look at the time, it's quarter past eight.
Got to school on time, with two minutes to spare.
Do children realise how much mums really care?
There's my mum now waiting patiently for me,
Outside the new sports shop called JJB.
Yes, children do care, as I look in her eyes,
But not until they are older do they realise
How hard mothers work, a labour of love,
They are angels from heaven sent from above.
And here are some words I would like to say,
To you and to me on this special day -
Happy Mothers Day! By Anne-Marie Miller
