SIR: I refer to the letter printed in the Bolton Evening News on February 26,1998 concerning the deteriorating condition of Vale house, Stoneclough.
Vale House is a Grade 11 Listed Building and is owned by Robert Fletcher (Stoneclough) Ltd who are, therefore, responsible for the maintenance of the house and grounds. The condition of the house has deteriorated considerably over recent years which is a matter of concern.
Planning permission was granted in September 1997 for the change of use of Vale House to provide seven residential apartments and consent was also granted for the erection of nine dwellings to the rear of the property. It is anticipated that this development will bring the building back into beneficial use. However, the owners have given no indication when work may commence on the building.
