SIR: I would like to comment on the traffic lights on the corner of St Georges Road, leading to Knowsley Street. It seems to bear the red light continuously, no change to yellow or green. A person has to make sure no traffic is coming up round the bend in Knowsley Street, before hazarding across.
The sinister side of this situation comes when one is perhaps stopped at the crossing further ahead which goes over the minor motorway to Higher Bridge Street. I was standing at this crossing recently about 5.15pm. A long row of cars was on my nearside. This large number was, I believe, because of an accident out of town. The light was on red, the cars stopped, then due to the situation through the former crossing I have mentioned, I crossed two feet, only to be signalled by the near driver on my right, to whom I owe my life, of a fast van passing on the outer lane. I looked at the warning car and stopped a foot or so from this fast moving van.
I'm grateful to the driver who gave me the warning.
