PROVE him wrong! That's our message to the police now that Cllr Guy Harkin has come out with fighting talk about them having one law for the rich and another for the poor.
The Vice-chairman of the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority claims that traffic police are backing residents in wealthy areas who do not want strangers parking near their homes, but refuse to do anything when people in poorer areas complain of the same nuisance.
In his controversial posh versus poor allegation, Cllr Harkin identifies Regent Road, Lostock and Hooten Street, Daubhill, as being examples of the one law for the rich and another for the poor tendency.
Chief Supt Mel Pelham has strongly denied the councillor's claims. And Sgt Barry Fairclough has invited Cllr Harkin to see for himself how the traffic unit works.
We hope he accepts the invitation. Cllr Harkin is rightly acting on behalf of residents in his Daubhill ward who feel they are not getting the same treatment as people in wealthier areas.
Police say his argument is a non-starter. But they need to demonstrate that is so.
