A MAN was in custody in hospital today after a pensioner bravely tackled an intruder in his home.
The 70-year-old man woke at 2.30am to find a masked man at the end of his bed.
He grappled with the man and they both plunged down the stairs and crashed into a glass door.
But the intruder managed to hobble away from the house in Portland Road, Swinton.
Police were called and a man was later arrested at another address in Swinton before being taken to North Manchester General Hospital for treatment to a broken leg.
He was expected to be interviewed following treatment.
The pensioner suffered cuts and back injuries but was not detained in hospital.
