A 41-YEAR-OLD council worker is giving cancer notice to quit by running in the 1998 Flora London Marathon on April 26.
Keith Winstanley of Coppull Road, Chorley, is doing the strenuous run in order to raise cash for the Cancer Research Campaign.
He decided to run in aid of Cancer Research as cancer is now confirmed as Britain's number one killer.
Keith, who works for the council's community services department, has been training since Christmas.
He explains: "I'd been doing a little bit of running to get fit again. I was in the local running shop with a mate and they had application forms."
Keith has come a long way since his first run to his sister's house three quarters of a mile away, when he had to stop four times to catch his breath.
"Now I'm going out three or four times a week and I'll do between five and eight miles then on Sunday I'll do a long run of about 15 miles" he adds.
Mike Davis, area fund-raiser for Cancer Research, says: "We are tremendously grateful for Keith's support. It is essential that we raise enough money so that our scientists can pip cancer at the post."
