EAST CHORLEY is to benefit from a £30,000 cash injection to provide a new play area at Tatton Community Centre.

The extra money has been handed to the local council from central government and is being seen as another success for the Renewal Area initiative.

The grant comes just a week after the council decided to plough £100,000 into the area's playgrounds, which had come under fire from local councillors.

The extra £30,000 will be used to create a play area at Tatton community centre, with some money being used to provide new lighting on nearby paths.

Chorley's housing committee chairman, Councillor Barry Hodson welcomed the extra funding, saying: "The need for a new play area at Tatton was identified by local people from the very beginning as a priority within their community.

"Up until now we have not had the funding to provide it but, thanks to the new funding, this very worthwhile improvement can now take place.

"It is great news for local people and supports the enthusiasm that they have shown towards other regeneration projects in the area."

As part of the East Chorley Renewal Area, a ten-year community generation project designed to improve the area, Chorley Council has accomplished a long list of improvements and the development of new houses on derelict land.

Tatton Committee chairman, Tom Watson, said the money would be a big bonus for the community.

He said: "We have been working towards this goal over the past three years. A lot of time and effort has been spent improving these amenities so they can become a focal point for the entire community."
