BOLTON is starting 'twinning' negotiations with an important French town. The name of the possible twin is being kept secret at the moment. Bolton's Town Twinning Sub-Committee has been aiming for a town in either France or Germany with a population not above 300,000.

WHEN A 16-years-old youth enjoying a prank with his three friends, threw a 'thunder-flash' firework into the entrance of the Imperial Billiards Hall, Old Hall-st. North, Bolton, he didn't know that a policeman was on his beat in the next street. He appeared at Bolton Juvenile Court yesterday.
P.C. Jost told of hearing a 'loud bang' and of running into Old Hall-st. North just in time to see the defendant throwing another of the fireworks into the hall entrance. He gave chase and, when caught, defendant had five 'thunder-flashes' in his pocket. Defendant was fined £1.

SIR,- In proportion as the population increases in the borough, the number of patients at the Infirmary will be more numerous, and this will lead to increased expenditure. When the committee are barely supported with funds in good times, when famine, war, or commercial depression sets in, it places them in a precarious position, and it is the duty of society to remove the liability, and raise sufficient funds for its permanent support. With a united effort, funds for this purpose might be raised to build an enlarged establishment, and invest sufficient so that the interest would support the institution without the aid of donations. The Infirmary confers a great benefit upon the working classes, and they are invited to become pioneers in the cause, by commencing annual collections in all the various branches of industry in the borough. The Institution knows no distinction, neither political nor religious; consequently, all can join the ranks without hindrance, and if the working classes take up the case with a determined, persevering mind, it will be the means of bringing a great amount of support in the form of donations or legacies.
I remain, yours respectfully, An Operative.
