AFTER a run of six straight Division One defeats Leigh Centurions' morale should be at rock bottom.

But far from it.

According to coach Keith Latham the spirit in the Centurions' camp is sky high.

"I've never know anything like it," says the Hilton Park boss. "After six defeats you would expect confidence to be really down, but the lads are buzzing and remain confident that they can pull themselves out of trouble.

"That's a significant sign of the quality of character we have got. Even after a heavy defeat like the one at Dewsbury, spirits are unbelievably high."

The 50-0 mauling by Dewsbury prompted the coaching staff and players to sit down this week and view a video re-run.

"It was a productive exercise," Latham reveals. "The players were able to see the mistakes they made and once those have been identified, it's easier to correct them.

"Even the coaching staff admitted that they had made mistakes."

Latham will use some reverse psychology for Sunday's visit of Widnes Vikings.

The Leigh boss will pair new signing Phil Kendrick and Anthony Murray together at half back against their former club.

"Both players are smarting after not being given a real chance at Widnes and I feel they'll go out on Sunday with something to prove."

Kendrick will make his home debut along with another newcomer, Paul Wingfield, a goal-kicking winger on loan from Warrington Wolves.

Leigh's third new recruit of the week, James Arkwright, will start from the bench.

The 21-years-old half-back has joined his hometown club on a free transfer from St Helens. He will play part of tomorrow's reserve game at Hemel Hempstead and then take his place among the substitutes on Sunday.

Young reserve prop Dean Conway will take over in the front row from the suspended Andy Pucill who was given a two match ban after being sent off for a high tackle at Dewsbury.

Rising star Radney Bowker is also missing on Sunday after collecting a two match suspension following his red card for dissent in a reserve game.

Leigh's line-up is: O'Loughlin; Wingfield, Hadcroft, Donlan, Ingram; Kendrick, Murray; Street, Jenkins or Hudspith, Conway, Costello, Geritas, Garces. Subs to be selected.
