SIR: The closing of the top of Winter Hey Lane, Horwich, hadn't really bothered me until the past few weeks. Being a van driver I am up and down the lane quite a few times a day. When I am having to go up Brownlow Road or Longworth Road, I am diverted along Wright Street, then onto Mottram Street and then onto Lee Lane. On market days it is unbelievable trying to get this way by car, let alone with quite a big van.
The other day I came the opposite way as above, then coming down Wright Street about 100 yards there is a bad bend. On arriving at the bend I came face to face with a line of cars coming the other way. With cars parked all the way down on my side, there was no way through for any of us. I had to reverse about 100 yards in a van bringing me to not just one junction, but three. This caused instant chaos to all. I just can't understand why the council wasted money erecting then taking down the traffic lights at the top of Winter Hey Lane, causing great inconvenience to all motorists.
