A FRUSTRATED Bolton woman says she can't even GIVE away a nearly-new stairlift which her mum has hardly used.

Dinah Hill has spent the past few weeks trying to get rid of the £4,000 lift, which was fitted in her 94-year-old mother's house last May.

The elderly lady, who has severe arthritis, is due to move to a newly-built granny flat at her daughter's home next week so she will not need the stairlift any more.

But her exasperated daughter says that no-one wants the expensive piece of equipment which, she says, could help another needy person in the town.

Mrs Hill, of Bradshaw Road, Bradshaw, said: "This just seems so ridiculous, we can't even give it away.

"There must be dozens of people in need of one of these machines in the town. I've advertised, spoken to the manufacturers and also to the council but we've had no joy in getting rid of it.

"The young couple who have bought my mother's house obviously don't want the stairlift and it would be a crying shame to scrap it."

The lift, funded by a disability facilities grant, goes up 11 stairs before bending round a landing and going up another three steps. And it is the bend which Mrs Hill believes is putting off potential claimants.

She added: "The curve is bolted on in sections so I think it could be altered to suit different stairs."
