MANY people who have hazy ideas of how a public institution is run will probably be equally in the dark regarding public wash-houses. The imagination pictures something bleak, grim and depressing. THE Bolton Cricket Club, though not the first in this county, is nevertheless an old-established one, and seems to be rapidly increasing in point of numbers and proficiency. Its playing ground is well situated at Back-o'th'-Bank, on the north-east side of the town, being about 1 miles from the station; probably by next year, or the year after, there will be a branch line terminating within about 200 yards of the field. The ground is well-sheltered, being nearly surrounded by hills. The part levelled for playing is beautifully laid, and is in splendid condition this year; in fact it has been said by some of the All England £Eleven to be one of the best and truest grounds in England.
