ATHERTON COLLS 0 - BURSCOUGH 1: "That's the best we've played all season," commented ATHERTON COLLS manager Tommy Harrison, after his side's 1-0 home defeat, by one of the top outfits in the NWCL Division 1, Burscough. "Against the better teams we have to admit, we have looked poor, penned back in our own half, and creating little up front. But on Saturday we matched them in every department of the game, and really we should have won. We had a shot that hit the underside of the crossbar, twice they cleared off the line, and Alan Shawcross had a second half header, that really he tried to do too much with and put it wide rather than just heading goalwards. Their goal came just before half time, and was a really scrappy affair. Everyone of my players did themselves justice, but Carl O'Brien was particularly outstanding. We can't wait for the visit of LR on Tuesday now. Simon O'Brien and Dave Perry will be back from suspension, and Geoff McLean should be available after he had a run out with Exeter City Reserves on Saturday. It also looks as though Neil Wright and Paul Davies will be available, so I'll be going into the game with the strongest squad I've had all season."

ATHERTON LR 0 - ROSSENDALE UNITED 1

ATHERTON LR went down to a single goal home defeat by Rossendale Utd. The vital goal came from the penalty spot after keeper Phil Priestley had hauled down an opposing player. LR joint manager Steve Cunningham commented: "The centre back pairing we had of Steve Dixon and Frank Bird looks like being one of the best we've had here for a while. Up front Steve Cunningham and Jonathan Dunn worked hard, but it was Chris Smith In midfield who picked up the Man of the Match vote."?
