A BOLTON school's brass band will soon hit the high notes after help from a famous counterpart.
For the renowned Grimethorpe Colliery band - stars of the Brassed Off film - have come to the rescue of St Peter's CE Primary School.
Two weeks ago we revealed that the frustrated Farnworth pupils couldn't start a band because they didn't have enough tenor horns.
A shortage of instruments meant that pupils Charlotte Fitton and Sadie Smith had to share the school's only E-flat tenor.
But the school's search has proved successful after Yamaha-Kemble music bosses found a rare spare tenor horn when they recently renewed the colliery band's instruments.
Music teacher Susan Wilding said: "It's absolutely wonderful and more than we could have ever hoped for.
"The children don't know about it all yet and they may not realise the importance of the Grimethorpe connection. We can't thank Yamaha-Kemble enough for all their help."
The school's good fortune all comes down to two Bolton brothers.
When eagle-eyed Dennis Higginbottom, 54, saw the BEN story he contacted his brother Gordon, a promotions manager for Yamaha-Kemble, who eventually found the children the instrument of their dreams.
Gordon said: "We're always keen to help out with music at grass roots level if we can and we're delighted we could in this case."
It's not just Grimethorpe who have come to the rescue. The school has also received calls from Bolton Music Centre offering three instruments and a half-sized violin.
