SIR: I was intrigued to read the Daily Poem from Mrs C Sharp (BEN, March 17), regarding the early pledges of the Labour Government, and the consequences nearly a year later.
In particular, two lines of the poem said: "They criticised the Tories for all they said and did. Who does the Labour Party think they're trying to kid?"
This so-called working class party gained power with promises, and then double crossed the electorate by conning the students, pensioners, people with mortgages and even those on hospital waiting lists.
Before the General Election, the Labour Party constantly waived a red card around with early pledges written on. Now they are in power, these cards have suddenly disappeared. The only improvements Labour politicians have made is to their own pockets, and places of work, at the tax payers' expense.
This must be the worst betrayal by a Labour Government to Labour voters over the last 50 years. The biggest joke of all will be at the next local elections, when once again we will see 'Vote Labour' in socialists' windows.
In the end, we will need someone like Margaret Thatcher to sort the country out again. Meanwhile the 50 council seats that have been won by the Conservatives since the General Election says it all!
