A SELL out concert at Farnworth and Kearsley Labour Club is helping provide entertainment for young cancer sufferers.

Christie Hospital patient Eileen Shaw, of Farnworth, was so impressed with the bravery of the children she saw on her own visits to the hospital for treatment that she decided to raise cash to help them.

"I spent a lot of time in Christie's and when you see the children it really touches you," said Eileen.

Local singers gave their services free and the concert at the club on Friday night was such a success that it was standing room only and raised an amazing £2,512.

The money will be spent on computer equipment for the hospital day room to be used by the children and the cheque was collected by Christie's representatives Bob and Isla Splaide.

Local pubs, businesses and friends donated items for a raffle, which included £250 of goods from Stax DIY at Wardley and a gold bracelet.

Eileen's husband, Frank even joined in the fun by dressing up as a female impersonator and walking around Farnworth for a dare, raising £250 for his efforts.

Help was also given by the Labour Club, Farnworth Vets Club, St Gregory's Guild Club and Hawker Siddeleys.

Pubs including the Black Horse, Clock Face, Bradford Arms, Moss Rose and Britannia added to the total raised by running football cards.
