Wanderers are ready to launch an appeal against Gudni Bergsson's sending off in Saturday's 2-0 defeat of Leicester.

The Bolton captain, who is awaiting the report of match ref Uriah Rennie, will contest the verdict if he lands anything more than a one-match ban.

Bergsson is likely to escape a three-match suspension. But, if the Sheffield official confirms his post-match report that he was sent off for "serious foul play", he could receive a two-match sentence. That would rule him out of Wanderers' two Easter games - at home to Blackburn on Saturday week and at Derby on Easter Monday.

"I've seen the incident on video and there is no way the referee can interpret that as serious foul play," manager Colin Todd confirmed.

"It all hinges on the referee's report. If he says it's a one-match offence we're prepared to accept that. But no more.

"Gerry Taggart finally gets the chance to get his blighted season back on track tonight when he plays for Wanderers Reserves against his old club, Manchester City, at Leigh's Hilton Park.

The unlucky Northern Ireland defender has not started a senior game since October 26 when he started a six-match suspension. Groin and ankle problems have kept him sidelined ever since. He was pencilled in for a 2nd Xl game last week but withdrawn because it was considered too early in his recovery programme.

Taggart says he is determined to play a part in the fight for Premiership survival.
