THE oldest mine of any sort currently being worked in the UK has had a special delivery - from Horwich.
A portable compressor has been modified and approved for underground work at the Winsford Rock Salt Mine in Cheshire.
Salt Union Ltd bought the machine from Ingersoll-Rand, which has its UK headquarters in Horwich.
The compressor was delivered underground to the salt mine by Northern area sales manager Andrew Hatton and service supervisor Mick Matthews, who are both based at Horwich.
The Winsford Rock Salt Mine dates back to 1844.
