A CARING Chorley medical student is helping to give cancer the boot by running the London Marathon.
Michelle Evison, who lives in Kensington Road, will be pulling on her tracksuit in April to raise money for the Cancer Research Campaign.
The 23-year-old is in her final year as a medical student at Manchester University and has been working at Chorley Hospital.
She said: "The Cancer Research Campaign was my grandfather's chosen charity because he had a sister who died of cancer. He only died last year so it's my way of paying tribute to him. I haven't set myself a time in which to run the London Marathon. But I find that as I run it gets easier to keep running than to walk, so I hope to run the whole 26 miles."
Michelle has been applying for four years to run in the marathon and could now be on her way to the 1998 New York Marathon as well.
Mike Davis, area fund-raiser for the campaign, added: "We are tremendously grateful for Michelle's support. Any money she raises will help us offer hope to cancer patients all over Britain."
